† Al Scarpinato (63)

Alfred Scarpinato lost his last fight but he is lives
on in our memories, his marks and seeds he left for
his family, his friends, his colleges and his students.
We remember his visit in 2004 joining the Martin Reunion
and his presentation about the fate and fortune of
the Martins and other emigrants in America. Now he
is on a new journey, to unfamiliar terrain and left
us behind. (See also Forum USA)

Barthel Martin founded the Martin's branch in Rettersheim
Claus Mueller recently studied the Helmstadt account
books for 1783 / 84 and found an entry about Barthel
(Bartholomaeus) Martin; he paid 3 fl. 5 bz. for the
permission to move out from Helmstadt to Rettersheim
(with his wife Sabina).

† John Scarpinato (59)
To, My family and friends,
My brother John Scarpinato after a very long illness
has passed away on December 25, 2007. John was 59
years old and was living in Florida at the time of
his death. John was car mechanic since he was 18 years
old. John enjoyed going fishing. During the last year
of his life he hoped he would get well enough to go
fishing one more time. He also loved his dogs named
Ratchet and Doc. John is survived by his mother Virginia,
brothers Al, Ken, Gary and sister Diane. John was
buried on December 29, 2007 at Pinelawn Memorial Park,
Suffolk Co., NY. He will be missed very much by all.

Hans Martin * 1916 - † 2007 Hans Martin, Wuerzburg
left us behind. He died after a severe illness.
His wife, Lilo, the children, family and friends are
mourn the loss but draw strength from what they have
experienced and shared, from so many hours of joy
and happiness, but also hours of sadness, bitterness
and desperation and from what he meant for us and
those who have known him. The composer, organist,
choir director, conductor and teacher Hans Martin
stood over 70 years in the church music service and
has composed many church and secular works. His church
music works church songs, chorales, psalms, motets
in Latin and German, cantatas including two sacrament
cantatas, Advent cantata and the Atkarsk Christmas
cantata, masses in Latin and German and passions and
over 120 secular songs, to texts by Clemens von Brentano,
Joseph von Eichendorff, Johann Wolfgang Goethe, Wolfgang
Salm, Theodor Storm, Johanna Wolff and his own poems
as well as music plays. As a young student, he had
searched the roots of the Erlenbacher line of Martins
back to the year 1800 (in Trennfeld). Through this
pedigree, we found 2001 the connecting lines and the
origin the Martin's in Helmstadt, the branches in
Homburg and Rettersheim and many emigrated Martins
in the USA and Australia. He kept his interest and
joy in the family history and news from the places
he worked as teacher, organist, choir leader until
the very last days. A very special event this year
was, that his Atkarsker Christmas cantata found its
way back to Atkarsk (Russia) and is now on display
and audio at the Atkarsker museum of local history,
as a sign of friendship between peoples, but also
as a reminder of the injustice and the suffering of
the war and as a warning against and to prevent any
future war.

† Robert Martin, Helmstadt (84)

Robert has died on June 9th, after a longer time of
illness . Robert Martin was allways a 'fan' and sponsors
of the martin-bavaria Website. He was full of joy
and gratitude to have the chance to partizipate and
experience our Martin's reunion in the year 2004.
Our thoughts and sympathy are with his family.
